The new reader is learning skills (reading) that will soon
allow him to explore the written word on his own. He sounds out words. He
“reads” familiar words that we sometimes call sight words. The new reader
delights in his ability to understand the print on a page. In grades 1-3, the
work of the child is largely to learn to read, to learn the skill.
Why I Write for Beginning
Readers
I love to write for beginning readers because they are so
engaged in the process of reading. They want to read to everyone (including to a
favorite toy or the family pet). What better reading material than an easy
reader Bible story book or a beginning reader devotional book? How can new readers explore God's Word?
